The mission at Scholastic Fencing League is to introduce the Olympic sport of fencing to students in a safe and fun environment while promoting the values of character, honor, integrity, strategy, and athleticism. How Does Our Program Work? Fencing involves quick thinking, agility, poise, and speed. This unique sport develops self-discipline, respect, maturity, and good sportsmanship, which carry through to our everyday lives. Fencers learn to solve problems, cope with adversity, and take what comes with grace through their individual and team participation. It is a tradition to salute before a fencing competition and shake hands afterward. It is one of the few sports that evens the playing field between size, age, sex, ethnicity, and personality. Our beginner class offers footwork, blade work, tactics, and strategy instruction. It includes an introduction to the history of fencing, weapons, target areas, and fencing techniques. Progressive classes build on previous experience, and the curriculum is developed to improve skill levels.
